Decided to do an in depth blog of this holiday, hopefully people will read it, maybe it will help them some, maybe give others an idea of what to see and what to avoid, please sign the guestbook and leave any comments you wish, feedback is welcome, for negative comments I will try to correct issues.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Reijo Sirpoma, who so kindly sent me photographs, as you will read later I was unfortunate enough to lose my camera and all the photos with it, without Reijo's assistance I would not have been able to insert so many photos, all photos marked with a double asterix are from Reijo.

Departure time is looming, it is a balmy -2deg Celsius in Helsinki. What a thrill, we have been waiting for this holiday for 9 months, after the hard work of the previous year, it is great to be getting away for a while.
Boarding the AMG flight to the south, sit down strap in,  brilliant, wer'e on our way. Luxor here we come.
Looking out of the windows, we see a snow covered Ukraine, the snowline stops when we fly into Turkey, out over the Mediterranean sea night begins to fall, about 1 hour later, we see lights, must be Alexandria, flying over the Delta area, we watch the lights all the way to Cairo, nearly there, about 45 minutes to go, seatbelts on, just about to land, on the glideslope now, touchdown, everyone on the plane starts to applaud, (it's a Finnish thing), time to disembark.
Arrival in Luxor, 24deg celsius, fantastic, the snow seems a long way away.
Luxor airport, it appears to be ok,  not very busy, fair enough, it is early evening, everything pretty straightforward, passport control, (our visas had been obtained in Finland), then it was off to claim our baggage.
First encounter with a Bakseesh collector, he wanted to collect the case I was already holding, fortunately, my death grip was stronger than his grasping mitt.
Outside to the waiting  travel rep, then it was onto the bus for a 15 minute ride to the Corniche, where hopefully our boat Nile Ruby is waiting for our arrival.
First impressions, cabin adequate, maybe 4 stars, we are on the upper deck, still some people on the sundeck, so it was a trifle noisy, spotlessly clean, staff cheerful looking, I assume they will be friendly, definitely 5 star in that respect, food appears to be plentiful, more to the point very tasty. Engine noise a bit loud, but hey, you cant have everything.
Time for bed now, it's been a long day, we have an early breakfast, 04.30, then it's off to Karnak and Luxor temples, before we trot on down the road to catch up with the Ruby, waiting at Esna.
