Decided to fly up here and skip the 10 hour train, seeing as flights within Thailand with Air Asia are a steal! Paid 1,000 Baht for a ticket, approx 15GBP for 1hr flight!
Chiang Mai was great fun, 700Km North of Bangkok and located amongst the some of the highest mountains in Thailand. We spent a few relaxing days walking in the main city and amongst all the temples, a great chilled town in the mountains.
Jim did some crazy down hill mountain biking for the first time ever..and came away with no injuries amazingly (I can vouche it was bloody crazy - 28Km downhill and we descended from approx 1600 meters down to 400 meters, with some single track along the way which was mental. I only managed to go over the handle bars three times during the day - we were however equipped with Helmet, Full Body armour etc etc - good job else there would have been broken bones - the day was not without injury and some concussion but fortunately not mine!)
We did a trek up in the mountains and came across a massive snake..already deaded thankfully but enough to make us speed up the second half of our walk!
We also spent a day doing a cookery coursewith Baan Thai Cookery School which was excellent! We can now make Thai Red curry paste from scratch!
