Once Amanda and Chris left Koh Samui we moved on to Koh Tao by ferry.  This place is really small and quiet (population of 1,400 ish) but a complete diving haven.  There are still loads of places to stay (mostly diving orientated) and restaurants but it retains a very laid back chilled atmosphere!

I decided to brave the diving...my first in 7 years or so and certainly my first diving since the tsunami so I was pretty nervous.  I had a quick refresher and as it all went well...off we went in the afternoon...  I can safely say I loved it!!!  Really fantastic to be back to diving and loved it so much, I went and booked another couple of dives soon after.

Jim is unfortunately unable to dive but supportively came along and had his own adventures with snorkelling.  He was out on his own when a shark came towards him...within a few meters only...and as there was no one else there, he was left to see what the shark would do.  Fortunately it left him alone once some of the others snorkellers came up to see the shark. When one of the instructors joined Jim they ID'd the shark as a bull shark...not good as it is one known to be viscious towards man!!!

Note by Jim: An amazing experience, but can honestly admit that every shark documentary flashed before my eyes when I was faced with the shark on my own (felt like ages, but was no doubt 4 or 5 seconds only) - amazing but also a tad scary - the shark was a good 2-3 meters in size and in this case I think ' Ignornace is Bliss' is a good saying - it was good not knowing what type of shark it was whilst I was snorkelling on my own - I did however remain bloody damn still in the water and kept my eyes on it after I spotted it (and it spotted me!) - once I was joined in the water by others, all was good - very eiry on your tod!!

Margarida also did fantastic on the old scuba diving, excellent stuff, really superb, she was very nervous (pooping one's self is an understatement!) and nailed it by doing 4 dives over two days - a definate tick in the box!!
