Our first destination in Thailand was Koh Samui, Thailand's third largest island with an area of 230 Sq Km island and population of approx 50,000 just of the East Coast in the Gulf of Thailand.
We were excited about getting here as we were seeing friends from home for the first time in 7 months! But...we had heard that the weather had been terrible for the last few days. Rain and flooding meant that our friends Amanda and Chris were stuck in their luxury resort for the last 4 days. (Luckily the resort and their pad was amazing!)
By the time we arrived and got somewhere to stay, the rains had stopped (we had promised to bring the sunshine from Laos with us and we did!) some roads were still flooded but fortunately all open...that meant we arranged to meet A+C that same night! We had a great catch up and after a few (many, many...) drinks we ended up in a caberet bar with a difference....take a look at the photos and see if you can spot the difference....
We had a cracking week in Koh Samui catching up with old friends and plenty of sun, sand and sea. A superb top tropical chillout, with some beatiful beaches, excellent restaurants and plenty of great seafood along with the obligatory Pad Thai and Ho Fan Noodles......a great start to Thailand, and it didn't even rain once!
We were also lucky enough to get an exclusive invitation to Amanda and Chris's luxury hill top hideaway by the sea. Their pad had stunning views not to mention a fab lunch menu - we were even collected by golf buggy on arrival at reception - now we were definately 'flash packing' - have to admit their pad was a tad larger than ours!!!!
