Having left Kerela we entered a new state - Tamil Nadu, population 55 million; main language Tamil. We took a two hour bus ride to get to the southern most tip of India - Kannyakumari. The plan was to arrive here on a full moon to witness the sunsetting and moon rising over the 3 sea's. (Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea)
As it happens, we were spot on with our lunar predictions and arrived when the moon was due to be at it's fullest for the month!
We visited the Kumari Amman temple and our tour by one of the priest's also included the ritual marking of the forehead with red powder....as you'll see in the pictures! Other than some impressive temples, there wasn't really that much going on in the town, however, it was worth it for the sunset and moon rise. The photo's don't quite captures its full glory but the moon was especially bright and golden.
We saw the first of many memorials to the victims of the tsunami - the state of Tamil Nadu - being on the east coast was quite badily affected.
We only stayed here one night before heading to Pondicherry.
