Where I stayed
Spent today lounging by our hotel pool. It was really quiet and at times we had it all to ourselves. In the evening we went to a restaurant called 'The Big Pink', a wicked place on Collins Ave in South Beach that serves diner-style comfort food such as macaroni cheese, burgers, meatloaf, smoothies, floats, milkshakes etc etc. It's famous for its 'tv dinner', which changes daily and basically consists of a number of dishes served all at once on a silver tray. After dinner, we returned back to our hotel and packed our suitcases ready to move on again the next day to THE villa....we couldn't wait for what was to come!
26/09/2009 - Woke up, checked out, left our luggage at the hotel and went out for a walk
Late afternoon we were picked up at our hotel by the Alamo shuttle and taken to the main office, further north on Collins Ave, to pick up our hire car. We had prepaid for an economy car, but fortunately they had none available, so we got a free upgrade! Whoopee!
We had been dreading driving in the US, but had spent the last few weeks picking up tips and hints from cab drivers, locals etc, and we were now desperate for the freedom of having our own car. Apart from a few teething problems with the gear stick, Jim took to the car like a duck to water and we set off to La Gorce Island, North Miami Beach.
We arrived at the house (once past the security guards at the entrance to the island!) and were met by Paula, the housekeeper
After quickly popping out to stock up the fridge, we jumped in the pool and basically haven't got out since!
27/09/2009 - See above (although did come in to eat, watch DVDs and play Jenga)!
28/09/2009 - Not too much to write about again, although today we did witness our second tropical thunderstorm. Jim is enjoying having his own private gym. When he goes for a workout, I go for a lie down. Hopefully we will actually leave the villa tomorrow and we will have more to write about. Jim is cooking one of his specialties tonight - spaghetti and meatballs, yummy....
