Monday morning I said farewells to Shirley and Don in Taupo and set off for the long drive to Auckland.  More kind friends to stay with there too.  I stopped for a few photo shots and lunch but then pushed on to Auckland.  Scenerywise it was great too, but one can't just capture everything so I just have great memories of green rolling countryside and steep hills.  As there had been demonstrations in the City centre, something to do with the Maoris and their seats in parliament I think!  Because of this I had almost decided not to cross the city and make for Pohoi but as I drove towards the bridge it was not too busy to I just kept going and with the help of my dear Miss Garmin I made it to Pohoi.  Karen had kindly left me a key and I arrived at 3pm, much relieved that I had actually made it.

The area I was staying in is just beautiful, unfortunately it rained all the time I was there, but that didn't hide the green lushness of the steep hills around and the sort of 'English' looking farmland Rotorua Museum

.   Karen was saying this is what attracted them to live in this stunning area.  I was glad I made it to stay with them for the night.   Almost 450 kilometres, the most I had done in one day.

After a simply delicious supper and chat with my kind hosts it was bedtime and preparation for leaving New Zealand.  I made it to the airport in good time so took a drive down to Hillsborough Bay for a walk.  I found a forest trail for half-an-hour's much needed exercise before finding my way - and getting lost despite Garmin - to fill up with petrol and take my little green friend back to Ezirental.  The three hours prior to the flight went very quickly, check-in, through security, emigration etc  etc and at last boarding!    We took off over a dark and cloudy Auckland, though the lights of the city were great to look down on -my last view of New Zealand, three wonderful weeks of travelling around!    More vistas ahead - LA I'm on my way ........
