After leaving the wonderful tranquility of the Ilha we had a night on a mooring buoy at Tavira then onto Vila Real de Santo Antonio which is the last marina on the Portuguese side of the Rio Guadiana.  We had a restful sail along the coast and reached the marina in good time.  The wind along the Algarve and in fact the whole of Portugal seems to blow up in the afternoons and gusts upto 23 knots at times from nothing. So we realised that the wind was blowing us onto the reception pontoon as we arrived but we handled it well.  Steve went to register us while I waited on board as usual.  The marina staff then told us to move to a berth pontoon opposite. So it was all a little rushed and I had not got time to move the fenders and lines before we made ready to go. The wind was sooo strong that we could not manoeuvre cleanly with little engine power and consequently we were pushed by the wind and had a clash with another yacht moored in front of us catching our Bimini frame in their stern. This meant that the Bimini now had to have a repair done to it and we told the marina staff that we weren't moving anywhere in those conditions.

The people whose yacht it was were very good and checked out their boat and all was well with them.  They were a smashing English couple who had been living on their yacht in the summer months for 5 years and spent there time along that coastline.  They spent the winter months in an apartment somewhere on that coast but I cannot remember where now. The man told Steve where he could get the Bimini fixed up which happened to be across the river on the Spanish side.  "No time like the present" Steve said,  so he set off and took the ferry across to see the man over by the marina there.  I went off to try and find a free wifi signal in the town.  There was one cafe where I bought a drink and caught up with a few important emails.  Then Steve came back and said that all was sorted out and we were to go over to Spain next day and get the repair done.  We had a meal in the marina restaurant that night and then got some much needed sleep.
