Scarily we arrived to rain yesterday, and thought it was a terrrible mistake, but today the sun is out and it~s off to the beach - finally! At least we have got one of the islandīs 6 days of sunshine this month!
The island is kind of freaking me out, Iīm not sure if itīs because I haveīt been anywhere touristy like this in a while but it seems really artificial, itīs lovely but it doesnīt seem real you know? Our hostel is gorgeous, really beachy and budget for the island - Pousada Genova, chilled characters that run it, great b/fast
Loving Brazil and the Brazilian people.
Thinking only Brazilian women look good in Brazilian bikinis. But where are all the women, the (very buff) men are playing volleyball, beach tennis, walking around... where are the women???
We went for a great walk to the fort and got totally rained out, but some good pics were well worth it.
Also attempted several times to get to Fonte De Ceu, a waterfall on the island, not signposted and the maps of the island are not v acurate... so after many trudgings to dead ends, or random beaches we hired a young local whipper snapper to guide us through the forest to the falls, well worth the 6 reais I tell you! He powerd up there, we struggles in the million percent humidity up the hills etc but made it. Unfortunately the last falls we saw were Iguazu, and I have a feeling a lot of falls are not going to live up to expectations! It was sweet though, and we had a splash before powering home again. Also we saw little cute monkeys on the way, Marmosets we think, sweet little things, like the girl had as a pet in Bolivia, NICE, considering they kill the mother to get the babies for pets.
Anyway, imagine how many firecrackers the young lad could buy with 6 reais. Festival of June on in Bahia, a festival for young people, we think where they get away with anything considering the amount of firecrackers they were throwing around
Had a stickybeak at a project run by one of the pousadas protecting rare crabs on the island, very cool crabs and loads of them, itīs scary how easily things thrive when protected, and how absent they were everywhere else.
Got a great couple of days of sunshine before we left the island. Decided to go south back to Rio and make a flight for once, rather than excessive travel around the rest of the country in minimal time. The 60 hour bus trip has really put me off long bus journeys... I do not know whow we are going to get to Canada from Mexico, and back, on budget =(
Tropical Island pix soon.
