How good can these hills be?!

The guidebooks don´t talk Valaparaiso up much, but itçs great, and itçs funny how noone ever talks Chile up, but weçre really enjoying it, although it might be because we have hit the three month mark in South America, are slightly homesick and missing creature comforts, and Chile is more like home than anywhere else weçve been. We love it anywayª

It´s like the Freo of South America. It´s also a port, with old buildings, and arty.

They have ´Ascensors´ here which are like escaltors/elevators up the very steep hills. They are very cool, like little lifts straight up hills, built a hundred years ago so a bit dodgy and scary I think! I think they are the world heritage bit of the hills, Içm still a bit confused how these hills can be world heritageª We are trying to walk.

The town is very arty and studenty, there are murals everywhere. There are 13 universities here - the population is 270,000!

The hostel is great, the ceilings are 4 metres high!

The whole town was rebuilt in the early 1900s so all the architecture is lovely and old, the buildings have been built on the hills and are so interesting as a result.

On the downside, someone told us last night they still use DDT here. Is that legal? How are their large birds coping I wonder?

All pics will be of these great murals.
Mendoza next...
