The next morning, we ate the bagels June left for us (thanks again, June!) and headed for the Johnson Space Center, despite hearing from the people June was staying with that it was not that great. We arrived there hour before it opened and as soon as we got to go in, we made a beeline for what we thought was going to be the coolest part of the visit, the tram tour of the facilities. We decided on the tour of the astronaut training facility (vs. mission control). It was fun - we got to walk through the training center, but it was nothing as cool as we were hoping. After the tour, we saw an exhibit on the history of space flight and got to touch actual moonrock (and we have the neon orange stickers to prove it)!! We left the Space Center, got lunch at a place called Otto's, which supposedly is a favorite of President Bush's, and headed over to a private art/antique collection called Bayou Bend. The house was built around 1920 for a woman called Ima Hogg and she decorated each room in a different style. All antiques in each room were specific to a certain American period. It was pretty amazing. She also created beautiful gardens surrounding the house, which were nice to walk through. After that, we headed to the Rothko Chapel, a non-denominational chapel that is pretty bare, besides the 14 gigantic, dark-hued Rothko paintings lining the walls. It was pretty neat. After a full day, we headed to dinner at The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant. It was really fun! We had cheese fondue that changed Jill's opinion on cheese fondues in a positive way and we also fondued meats, fish and veggies in boiling (sizzling!) canola oil. To end the day, we rented a German movie called Goodbye Lenin! with June. It was pretty good!
