We tried to drive further south today, but our late start from Talca (not our fault of course), meant we had to stop over in Chillan for the night. It sounded interesting in the Lonely Planet, but really didnīt tickle our funny bones at all. Interestingly the weather is getting WARMER and SUNNIER as we head south??!!

Chillan is mainly famous for its local market (drove by, mainly fruit and vegs), as well as being the birth place of Bernardo O`Higgins, the bloke who signed Chile`s independance papers.

We stayed in a hostel listed in the LP (under the wrong name, helpfully). The lady was nice, although she changed the price of the room in the morning when we tried to pay. He son was a bit jealous too, of having guests... ĻES MI CASAĻ (itīs my house!). We chatted to some other guests that evening, men who are staying in town to help build the Football (soccer) Stadium in preparation for Chile hosting the Women`s World Cup in a month. The other men were working for foresty logging plantations for the regionīs paper industry. The workplace health and safety measures in Chile mustnīt be very good, because half of them were on crutches!
