Trujillo is an excellent town where you can go on a day tour to visit two pre-Incan cities.

We did this over two days, because we were pretty recked from so much bussing up and down the coast.

We visited Chan Chan, once a large mud city built by the Chimu people. We also visited the Sun and the Moon pyramid, built by the Moche civilisation. This pyramid is still being excavated, but it was VERY impressive. Trujillo certainly will have an increased tourist trade in a few years once they finish restoring the area.

Huanchaco is a surfing beach just north of Trujillo, where we stopped after one of the tour to watch the sunset, and get a yummy banana milkshake.
