Look, I was jet lagged and have no idea really what order things happened... But here are a few notes...
Grant and Helen put us on the metro in time to arrive and check in for our flight from Heathrow to Brasil. We were asked by a British Airways staff if we would like to volunteer to NOT go tonight because the flight was overbooked! Instead, we would be paid about $800AU each, get put up in a hotel with food included, and fly the following night. We volunteered of course! Anyways, while we waited to see if we flew or not, we enjoyed some Grande Hot Chocolates, on the British Airways tab.
Bummer, a lot of no shows meant we actually flew as planned. We also got 40 pounds of Duty Free Vouchers to spend on the flight! We wanted the battery operated Mozzie Repeller, but they had sold out
Sao Paulo smelt different.
We booked a few regional flights with GOL at the airport, pretty mean feat to do with jetlag.
Got to our pre-booked hostel - slept.
Next day Marcella, ex-student of mine from Alice Springs, met us and joined us for a brief tour of Downtown SP. We went up a reaaaaaaaly tall building to view the city, which is HUGE! On the way, we followed a street union protest, with police in towe. It was loud, but not violent.
Our hostel is run by three uni girls, studying Geography and History. They started the business a year ago, and now earn enough to support their studies whilst living in Sao Paulo, away from their home towns. We were very impressed by their story.
