FYI, check out joe and mel's blog/photo site & of Alex is getting lost group on facebook for the otherside of the trans-sib stories..

So a day of dry suit diving in the largest lake in the world, what could be more fun!

It's been awhile since I last dived, so I decided to dragged along my "go dive" book to revise a little on the train.  Although the section on dry suit diving only really mentions you should spent a good weekend familiarising yourself with the equipment.. oh dear! How's about 5 minutes with a Russian speaking instructor who really couldn't give a monkeys!\

Well, however bad you think your postion is, there's always someone worse off. cow and scuba.. what more do you need?
cow and scuba.. what more do you need?
. and that person on this occastion was Dr Alex Campbell, my fellow traveller on the trans-siberian.. Dr rather dentist Campbell had 1 dive under his belt, yes.. just the one and that was about 10 years ago.. so with my 7 dives and a padi cert i felt a little more assured of survival! lol

After the magical tour of the museum the day before we we're both excited to see what the lake acutally had to offer, from the shores edge it looked wonderfully clear and calm, but under neither the water, the status of "clearest lake in the world" was rapidly becoming diminishing.. apparently it was the worst time of year to go diving, the algae swapped views in all directions and closed down visability to 10m.. not good..

We did see the legendary soft "britvic - water purifier" coral, oh and 2 small fish..

Grrrrrrreat!

but the most entertaining moment had to be when Dr Campbell returned to the surface (a little out of control) with fins flapping first!

The rest of the day was filled with lounging on the shore, being waited on by the lovely home stay owner, 3 course lunches are something i've been missing! Although still a little unsure about sour-cream with everything! They love it!
