After some anxious moments and problems with the truck and camper, we are on the road! Many thanks to our friend Terry, Doug at Dunsmuir Super Service, and Bob at Fennell's RV for making time to solve our electrical and electronic problems, so that we could leave on time.
Our first night was spent at a Forestry Campsite on the Old Hedley Road, where we arrived after dark and settled in. Our drive the next day was through spectacular fall scenery - golden birch and cottonwood trees like candles against the dark green pines, fir and spruce, scarlet vine maples and sumac, blue skies and warm, sunny weather. We spent our second night in the Lions campground in Rossland, a little-known campground just off the highway. During our visit with our grandson, Isaac, we were surprised by a half-grown brown bear walking down the street. After sniffing around the yard, it climbed onto and into a dumpster with construction waste, found nothing of interest, climbed back out and walked up to the neighbours, then disappeared into the woods.
After seeing six deer and the bear, we expected to see more wildlife on our trip through Kootenay and Banff National Parks, but saw only one black bear. The drive is wonderful though, asWe have spent the last three days in Calgary, visiting Dave, Sara, Adam and Jonas. The weather has been superb until today when it became cooler and rained. We've enjoyed our time here, visiting with our family. Tomorrow, we head for Waterton National Park, where we will meet my sister and brother-in-law and begin our travels together.
