And now the lazy days of lake fun are over.  And what a 2 weeks it has been!  Early mornings fishing with Jerry's brother Larry and friend Bill produced lots of bluegill (in fact we had a contest to see who could catch the smallest fish and the unofficial winner was Becca), and a few bass.

Mornings were also spent hanging out on the deck visiting, watching Becca and Hannah play Wii games, and watching the wild dogs chase deer through the back yard.  Afternoons involved shopping, hanging out in the lake swimming and riding the wet bike, pulling the kids on float tubes and more fishing.  Evenings usually involved playing horseshoes, dominoes or simply relaxing around the fire on the back patio watching Becca catch frogs.

The last few days of the visit had Jerry going with Larry up to La Cygne, KS to Marais Des Cygnes river for camping and fishing for catfish with friends John G. and Brian C.  Great time was had reminiscing about the old days, catching a few Flathead catfish (including one than weighed in around 30 pounds) and playing horseshoes.

As with all well laid plans, ours went awry when we could not locate a rental car for the 4-hour drive back up to Kansas City...luckily, family came to the rescue, and all made it safely back to KC just in time to watch the backhoe dig up Suzanne and Bob's back yard...Yes, the inevitable outcome of the battle between a beautiful 50-year old maple and 50-year-old clay drain pipes just 4 feet directly beneath her.  We visited over the roar of the backhoe, wincing as the trench became longer, the dirt pile taller, and the shrubs and plants flattened.  The only one smiling at this time was Becca, as she imagined her eventual fun playing in the piles of dirt!  In the end the tree was victorious, the new pipes diverted around her.

Today we leave for Washington DC to visit with the Val's sisters Pam and Allison, Allison's family, Bill, Dana and Billy, and for an organized picnic with treasured family friends.
