We entered Cambodia by boat at Phnom Penh - checked out the Museum and the Royal Palace - very busy, very hot but full of colour! Next was the Prison and Killing Fields of the Khmer Rouge - very gruesome, but worth a visit to try and understand some of the history.

Travelling on, we visited one of the islands and cycled round which was very peaceful as there are very few vehicles! Saw some of their agriculture in the fields, including trees full of ripe mangoes. Locals walking or cycling round with little metal nest contraptions with lunch inside for their partners working in the fields. Strange to think that the whole island goes under water during the wet season - they pretty much live in their stilt houses then and boat everywhere! Met some local children riding mopeds (riding at aged 11!) and chatting quite happily in English - selling the silk scarves their families weave for a living.

Enjoyed the Pre-Angkor temples and moved to the very touristy zone around Siem Reap - this is after checking out the deep fried spiders the locals eat! Yummy! The temples we checked out were just a small selection, but there was an amazing amount of carved sandstone (flowers, dancers etc.) - along with local made small bricks, as well as laterite for the hard-waring, more bulky parts. Interesting seeing nature taking over at some of the temples with trees growing out of roofs and thick roots weaving their way round walls and doorways. One temple with 216 faces all looking exactly the same was a bit eerie.

I said my farewells to my bike and my cycling group and flew out of Cambodia to Bangkok.
