Today we left Onawa, IA and headed south towards Kansas City.
Along the way we stopped at the Mormon Trail Center in Omaha, NE, which is also the location of Winter Quarters..  It is right across from the Omaha Temple.  It also has a Pioneer Cemetery that hold the remains of the saints who died while at Winter Quarters.

We left Winter Quarters and headed for Kansas City. The freeway was flooded and closed and we were detoured off the freeway onto the back highways.  The GPS did a pretty good job of keeping us on open roads.  However there was one spot we drove 20 miles and had to turn around because bridge was washed out.  We had to back track and ask directions!  What is the point in having a GPS if you have to ask directions?

We ate lunch in Auburn, NE and arrived in Kansas City a couple hours later than planned due to the delays.

Once we got the tents setup e had to go do something.  IT was right around 100 degrees and the humidity was off the charts (at least for this Montana boy)!

So we drove to the Independence visitors center and got the tour from a cute sister missionary.  While we were there we got directions to Liberty Jail and Adam-ondi-ahman.  We drove over to the Liberty Jail. Liberty Jail is the prision where Joseph Smith and 5 others were imprisioned from December 1, 1838 to April 6, 1839 during the Mormon War in Missouri.
It is sometimes described as a "prison temple" because of revelations
received during Smith's imprisonment there, now recorded as Sections
121, 122, and 123 of the Doctrine and Covenants. The Church has rebuilt it to exact specification in the same spot it was in.  They have built a rotunda over the whole building and attached a visitors center.  They have an older missionary couple there who are the tour guides and care takers.

One the way home from the jail we had to stop and see the latest Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows Pt 2, which is the final Harry Potter movie/book.  It lasted about 2 hours and was pretty good.  Of course Lisa and the boys picked out lots of things that were different from the book or not right, but it seemed pretty good to me :)

That night it was so hot in the tents.  IT was around 1130-1200 before I got to sleep. Then at 4:00 AM Jacob was yelling at me to wake me up.  I guess a raccoon was getting into our coolers and so every 15=20 minutes Jake would bank of the tent to scare it away again and or course Wake me up.  At some point I looked out the window and he was out the with a bar from his cot patrolling around the coolers.  Not sure what he as going to do it he actually found the raccoon...

It got into Lisa's cereal and at a package of Graham crackers and a granola bar.  Not much damage.
