Well, with just about two weeks left to go, I am finally getting ready to depart for the UZ!

Today I bought a backpack at EMS and more long-underwear at Patagonia with Carrie. Now the Patagonia store on the upperwest is fully versed in Central Asian weather conditions...very useful info for their clientele I am sure.

I also put this website together- so all in all- a pretty productive day!

For all those who are interested, here is my address while in training. I will be here for 3 months and then I will receive my permanent address, which I will then post on this site. Or, you can use this for the duration as this is address of the Peace Corps office in Tashkent (the capital of Uz.).

Uzbekistan, 700015 Tashkent
4 Turkestanskaya Street
c/o "Halqaro Pochtamt"
Attn: Jessica Teicher
Uzbekistan

This is how Peace Corps told us to write it, and from correspondence with current Peace Corps volunteers, writing 'Uzbekistan' again after my name is a good idea.

And yes, it is meant to be written backwards- not my dyslexia kicking in...

In addition, I have a version in Cyrillic that I am in the process of making labels in. According to the Peace Corps, writing my address in Cyrillic will speed up the process a bit.

More helpful hints from Peace Corps on mail and packages:

"Mail takes a minimum of three weeks to arrive in Uzbekistan.
Mail service is sporadic and that they [family/friends] should not worry if they do not receive your letters regularly.
Packages can be sent via airmail (which takes at least three weeks) or surface mail (which takes about three months). Even though airmail can be quite expensive, it is more reliable for sending packages than surface mail. In addition, any items heavier than regular letters run the risk of being held at the post office and not being delivered; you then have to retrieve the items from the post office (which may not be at your site) and pay customs fees. Although Volunteers always enjoy receiving packages from home, we suggest that you wait until you are settled in at your site before requesting that packages be sent."
