Entry 34 of 53 | show all | print this entry

Hello there!
Can't believe we forgot to tell this story yesterday.

Jess and TJ are hanging out in their room figuring out the bus schedule. Jess is sitting on the bed with her notepad and TJ is fiddling around with something. He looks at Jess and see's something move behind her.
" Holy ___ . . ." he exclaims, " don't look behind you seriously . . .".
"THAT'S NOT FUNNY!!!" Jess snaps back.
"No I'm not kidding . . . move off the bed"
"Why??"
"Just move, you don't wanna see it . . ."
"What? Shut up thats not funny." she says timidly but still ignores him.
"A huge cockroach just walked across the window sill right behind your head. Could've kissed you."
"AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Seriously?!?! THATS NOT FUNNY!!!!" she says as she leaps from the bed and runs to the other side of the room.
TJ checks in the curtains trying to find it. It crawls out on the sill. He grabs a slurpee cup from the garbage to try and trap it. But it proves to be a worthy adversary as it is too fast.
"OH MY GOD THERE IT IS!!!!!" Jess yells as she climbs onto the chair. Pointing as it escapes under the bed. TJ starts moving all of the luggage to the other side of the room so the roach can't get into it. Then he moves the bed out from the wall. Can't see it. So he lifts the bed onto its side. Still can't find it. Then suddenly Jess spots it. . .
"It's by your pack . . . it's gonna go in" she says from the top of the chair, camera in hand catching the hunt.
" NOOOO!!!" TJ says as he pulls his pack away. He grab's his size 13 sandal as he shakes the huge bug away from his pack. The roach starts bolting towards Jess's pack. TJ swings down but narrowly misses. The roach darts to the right and hisses at him.(Just kidding it didn't hiss, just makes it more suspensful). TJ swings again and stuns the small beast and as it tries to get away again TJ brings down the thunder and smashes it into the carpet. It took two or three swings to finish him off. But TJ came out victorious.
He looked up at Jess. "That thing was FAST!! . . . I can't believe you actually jumped up on the chair. I thought that only happened on TV hahaha"
Jess feeling embarassed climbed down, still scanning the room for the roaches friends. "Yeah the damsel in distress thing was kinda bad . . . ". TJ scooped up his dead enemy in the slurpee cup and squashed it to make sure it was gone. In the movies the monster always gets up at least once when you think its dead. Not against TJ the Cockroach Killa!!! It only takes one.
" DON'T FLICK IT AT ME OR I WILL . . ." Jess orders.
TJ looks at her with a mischevious grin.
"please don't . . .it's not funny . . .please don't" she pleads.
But he didn't. He threw it in the garbage and called it a night.

How was that for a story. Suspense, comedy, action, drama it was all there hahaha. Can't believe we forgot to tell it yesterday. We remembered as we were heading home from our ritzy night at the opera taking the bus towards our cockroach infested room. The room isn't bad, we figure a cockroach could be anywhere. Right??
Anyway we havn't done much today because it's still early so maybe the story was good to have. Today we leave Sydney. We decided it is the most beautiful "metropolis" sized city either of us has seen. So clean and modern and located perfectly. We're happy we got to see it. Our bus leaves at 2pm for Newcastle. We have a long couple of days on the buses. We don't think there's much we want to see between here and Byron Bay. So we're going to spend a few hours in Newcastle when we get there at 5pm before taking an overnight bus (12hrs) to Coff's Harbour. We'll spend most of the day there and take the 445pm bus to Byron Bay and arrive at 840pm. Then we'll be there for a few days. That's where our dive is so we're excited. We'll make an entry when we can but there may not be much to say. Unless we spot a kangroo!!! Or maybe another cockroach. TJ the Cockroach Killa Returns perhaps??? We'll just have to see. Talk to you soon.

Hi TJ & Jess,

Finally had the chance to sit down and read all of your entries. Sounds like you're having quite the adventure (some good, some not so good but an adventure none the less). You might want to check out a hostel called The Art Factory in Byron Bay. It was owned and operated by our orthodontit's receptionist's sister and her husband.(at least it was when we were there with Aa... show all

Hi Again TJ and Jess,
Just got off the phone with the young man. Piles of info for you. Now remember, caveat emptor. Here it is.

1. Expect to pay about $40 per night per person at Byron for a hostel. Not cheap, tourist center for NSW.

2. Don't stay at Main Beach Back Packers, dirty, smelly and hot rooms. He was NOT impressed there. Same price as the one below. BUT, do use th... show all

Hi Jess and TJ,
Funny story about the cockroaches. We never saw them in our house in Queensland but then again the owners probably raised Monsanto's shares by a few dollars with all the chemical they put down to keep them out. We did have Huntsmen spiders in the house (Tarantulas, spelling??). We would be sitting in the living room and one would go skitting across the ceiling only to be follow... show all

Fiji will be loaded with roaches, Hawaii was. In fact we were told not to pack things in paper....good advice...they like to lay eggs in and around paper.

Just remember they are the oldest critters and the only ones that can survive even a nuclear blast...this is true. Respect and even admire them...in some countries they race them..

Still no roos...what is that all about...mayb... show all

I don't know what I would have done. I know I would have freaked out! I definitely would not be able to sleep...Have you encountered any snakes or other reptiles or insects?

Hey, I just had a thought...since I think that Keith Urban is the hottest man alive, could you find me a small, cool, nicknack of some sorts of him? I will pay for it when you guys get back...
