So today we left the Bay of Islands, it was raining when we got up this morning. We stayed at a campsite across from Haruru Falls, which sounds sweet, but there was a giant fence blocking any view of the falls we may have had. Kinda dumb we thought, but we stopped by them before we got to the site anyway, so we at least got to see where the loud crashing water sound was coming from. So we headed off toward the Kauri forest (its called something else but we can't remember how to spell it wammaama or something). The road was nuts, twists and turns and up and down (Jess got very car sick). New Zealand is pretty much like this everywhere but this was different. About 40 min into the forest there is the worlds largest tree, Tane Mahune we think is its name. This tree is insanely large 40 ft across and like 200 ft tall, they estimate it is at least 2000 yrs old. Now a big tree doesn't sound that exciting but it was incredible. The pics we have won't even be able to describe its size because you can't fit the whole thing into one pic. So we took a video you can see when we're back. So after that we continued on and decided that since it was raining we would drive a lot more today. We were back tracking anyway so we cruised all the way through Auckland (in rush hour . . . million people . . .baaaaddd). But we finally made it just south of the city to a suburb called Manutau, where we are staying the night at another of our now favorite camping chain. This one is much more cramped but 15 bucks each a night with clean showers and internet is always good. Tommorow we are off to Coromandel. Talk to you soon!
