On to Tibet.
Entry 22 of 68 | show all | print this entry |
Written by Jesse Sorry, there are no pictures for this log, just wanted to give a quick update to keep people appraised of our whereabouts. We've been lazing around Zhongdian waiting to go to Tibet.
On to Tibet We met our travel agent again today. Everything seems to be in order for us to go to Tibet tomorrow. We met the driver and looked over the Landcruiser. The driver is nice and the truck (a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser) seems to be in great condition. Our permits for Tibet are in order and the local PSB is going to authorize another extension to our Visa. This is our second visa extension and those are rather hard to get.
We'll be taking 7-8 days to drive to Lhasa on what is known as the Southern route. We'll be incummunicado that whole time. We'll be going through the following towns and places: Zhongdian - Deqin - Yanjing - Markham - Pamda - Rawok(lake) - Pomi - Lunang - Nyingchi - Bayi - Pasum(lake) - Lhasa. We start out at an altitude of aroudn 3400 meters and cross several 5000+ meter passes ended up in Lhasa at around 3600 meters. We should have some amazing pictures when we are finished.
Homesick Lately we've been a little home sick. We miss the routine things in our life, friends, family, home. The stuff we had always taken for granted. This is a good wake up call for us. We are having alot of fun out here and are seeing amazing stuff. But at the same time learning to appreciate what we have at home.
What's after Tibet We currently have plance tickets to fly from Lhasa back to Zhongdian, China on December 3rd. That date may change depending on the weather and how much we want to see. With the 2nd Visa extension I believe that we can stay in China until December 25th. We probably won't stay that long but it gives us flexibilty for how long we stay in Tibet.
After we fly back from Lhasa we'll hightail it to Kunming, China. From there we'll be getting plane tickets to Burma (Myanmar). We've already got our visas for Burma, so it's just a matter of getting there. We'll be in Burma for 3-4 weeks. While there we will be incommunicado again with the exception of the occasional phone call just to let people know we're ok. Burma does not allow internet access and all emails must be sent under governemnt supervision and for a large fee. From Burma we'll probably fly to Bangkok.
