After last night´s activities, I slept in pretty late...almost 10! I know, that´s so unlike me...but it´s also unlike me to get into a massive foam fight on the street. haha. So I rolled outta bed, grabbed some breakfast, then Leanne and I went to find the english bookstore. We also wandered through the streets, taking in the atmosphere. There were thousands of people moving towards the city centre to attend the conference on democracy.
We ran a few errands, including going all the way to the south bus station on the metro, which still has not ceased to delight me. haha. I had a great chat with a lady on the metro about what was happening here politically. She told me that I´m witnessing a moment in history, and it certainly feels that way. There are hundreds of thousands of people outside my hostel....it´s truly something. Obrador spoke and rallied everyone to the cause of democracy...or something. (It was in Spanish) I´m a little concerned as the crowd has not dissipated and it´s getting dark, but with the number of police around here, all should be well....or perhaps not.
On the way back to the hostel, Leanne and I got caught in a massive rain storm, and took refuge in a pastry shop. Bad idea. Cheap, amazing pastries, and I think I´m regaining all the weight I lost. Can a girl live on fried dough? I´m going to give it a go. haha.
Tomorrow I´m off to Taxco to check out the silver goods, and then Monday I´m exploring the city again before jumping on an overnight bus to the beach. Can you believe it´ll be my first time in the ocean on this trip?!
Costs for today: 10$ hostel, 10$ food (no, not all on pastries! I had some veggies too)
