Today I set off to see some ruins at Teotihuacan. Check out this link for more info on the site: http://www.mexperience.com/guide/archaeology/teotihuacan.htm

It was a really fun day, even if we were harassed by vendors every three minutes! I swear, they outnumbered the tourists 2:1. I did have some good conversations with some of them though, once we established that there was no way I was going to buy anything they were selling. Sun Temple

Tonight I´m off to the zocalo (city centre) to see what Mexicans do to celebrate independence. Tomorrow is the crazy parade, and all seems pretty quiet here. It´s absolutely crawling with police, including riot police in full great. They dismantled tent city earlier, but I suspect that the protestors are still in town, so who knows what could happen. However, I fully anticipate it to be a peaceful day.

Last night was insane! Two girls from the hostel and I went out to the street to see what was going on for the big celebration. We decided to walk around for a bit, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. We even got cat-called by the riot police! Haha. We had a good laugh about that one, and then carried on. I decided that I wanted some pastries (yummmm) so we went down a street with a ton of street vendors. Kids were using spray foam to foam each other, and we ran into two tourists who were just covered in foam! We really ought to have taken that as a warning, but we just carried on. Sure enough, within minutes we were in the middle of a massive foam fight! We armed ourselves rapidly and retaliated. The kids were hilarious..they had all these tactics and techniques for catching us off guard. However, it soon went too far when they brought out fistfuls of flour and some eggs. Ew. We took it all in good fun though, and generally had a blast. On the way back to the hostel we decided to get our photos taken with the riot police...they were good sports about the whole thing!

We returned to our hostel to get cleaned up and watched the fireworks from there. I don't think they have the same safety requirements in Mexico as they do in Canada for fireworks. Tons of ashes and stuff were falling on people and the fireworks were being set off from the main plaza where everyone was! Crazy, but really cool. I've never seen fireworks that close before!

There were TONS of cops and riot police and everything around, but everyone was in good spirits. The President-elect had to move his speech to another city, but Obrador showed up and the crowd went crazy. We're still not sure what happened with the protestors...they all but disappeared on Friday. Guess that's what happens here in Latin America.

The party dispearsed rather rapidly, and we all went to the roof for a drink. It was a great night, full of lots of fun pictures and stories.

Love to all...miss everyone terribly.

costs: 10$ to visit the pyramids (Including transport and entrance), 10$ for the hostel, 2$ for ice cream (yum!) and I splashed out on dinner at 6.50. 50cents for foam. Still under my 30$ budget for the day!

Foot soreness: about a 4. Km walked: 18.
