My first real travel day started early at 7 a.m. with Greg yelling at me to get up. It was supposed to start earlier, but thankfully his girlfriend Kelly took pity on us and let us sleep in. Gotta love waking up to "JD, get up!" from the other room. haha.

I wandered down to Union station and grabbed Erika and Wayne, and we went for the best eggs benny in Toronto. They sure were good! We chatted for a bit and then parted ways. I used the wonderful subway system to get to the airport - brilliant - at only 2.75$. The airport was fun as always, and I suffered the indignity of having to take my shoes off at security. Man I hate that!! But I did smuggle a bit of contraband on the plane - lip balm! It's technically classified as a gel, and is therefore verboten. haha. Suckers! (I really hope I don't get put on the no-fly list for that stunt....hehe)

Checking into the airport was the usual - I asked if I had to change terminals in Houston, and the french lady said no. I then wondered why a french woman was working for continental, but didn't think too much of it, although my gates did start with different letters. Hmmmm.

Boarding the plane to Houston was a bit interesting. It was the smallest plane I've ever been on, minus a Cesna. It only had three rows of seats! When the landing gear came down, I thought the belly of the plane dropped out from underneath me...and my stomach went with it. haha. As we were landing, I could also see the plane swaying from side to side...freakin' small plane.

Once in Houston, it turns out that I do have to change terminals. Good news though, as I got to ride the monorail! Monorails are my second favorite mode of public transport. They're not as good as subways, which will still be with us after the apocalypse, but they're pretty cool anyway. So rode the monorail, ate a salad, enjoyed looking at the people in the cowboy hats. However, I was dissapointed by the lack of pickup trucks in the airport parking. :(

I arrived in San Diego safe and sound at 7 pm. local time, and found the hostel without a problem. I'm now completely exhausted, and will likely be sleeping by 10:30. Everything is good, although I am a little homesick - I wish I could go to the Toucan for a pint!
