For the rest of the day everyone just hangs around and drinks. There was also a ton of dancing. Everyone was showing me and Sarah how to dance the German way
For Anniversaries the neighbors put up a wreath around the door and decorate the yard the Saturday before the party. Because this was a 50th Anniversary it is called the Golden Anniversary. That means the flowers in the wreath and decorations are all gold...for 10th is wooden, then one is silver, etc. Of course they have a party for the hanging of the wreath also. I will post some pictures of this so you can see.
I met so many family members today, I didn't realize how many cousins, etc. I had over here. My Opa is a part of a family with seven children and his brother also had seven children, so even though it was just family at the party there were a ton of people there. There were many cute German boys there...but...I think I'm related
This may have been my favorite day in Europe. It was so amazing to see all of my family and everyone I had heard about. Many of the people there had already visited the United States, so I recognized a few faces. Everyone was so friendly and very welcoming. I did my best to speak a little German, even though almost everyone can speak English. I never paid attention in high school and now I am regretting it. After being here I really want to take it again in college and come back and be able to communicate with everyone.
I really can't describe how much fun I had in just this one day. I love it here!
