So, In between working a lot Adam and I got to go out in Austin a bit on Thursday night and Friday night.  They have a really neat district down here that is called SoCo...short for South Congress.  It's close to the down town area.

Here's the article that was posted where we discovered it: 
"I figured that I should post this in one of the earlier months so that hopefully you can find one “First Thursday” to take advantage of. . This may be as Austin as it comes…On the First Thursday of every month along South Congress generally from Barton Springs to Elizabeth Street stay open late – until about 10:00 pm. Some the stores have specials, sales, give out drinks, some of the restaurants and bars have drink specials as well. All and all it has the feel of a block party – - a block party at its finest.

Local vendors set up and you can find anything from handcrafted jewelry, art, clothes, to unique Austin artifacts.. In the mist of people you will see local musicians just set up and playing – it really combines everything our city is about!
You can not call yourself a true Austinite until you have been too a First Thursday – it is almost a right of passage if you ask me. The roughest thing about it is finding a parking spot but it is worth the hassle!"

So...We went to check it out!  It was a little bit different than the article said, there were a lot of vendors but it was a lot of artsie things.  There were many pictures, jewelery, and hand made things, lots of talent though.  There were also many different people and places that had live music playing, living up to the cities title, "The live music capitol of the nation."  While we were down here we noticed a nice little restaurant called Hop Doddy.  The place was packed. We took a look at their menu and concept and figured we'd come back and check it out tomorrow (Friday).

We did.  Hopdoddy had a pretty neat concept.  This is what they are all about:
* We grind our own meats.  Our beef is ground daily from never never happy doddys.  This means our meat is hormone and antibiotic free and humanely processed
*We bak our own bread.  Twice a day we make from scratch our wheat and egg bunns.
*We churn our own shakes.  Our milkshake ice cream is made in-house.  We make your shake even cooler by adding a splash of one of our 7 flavored cordials.
*We cut our own fries.  Just wait till you try a crisp Kennibec potato french fry
*We support local farmers, ranchers, brewers, and distillers.
*We recycle and compost almost everything.  Our goal is to be 99% waste free.
*We Serve you.

So, overall they lived up to their standards and it was delicious.  They have a different concept, you walk in the door and the host assigns you a table number.  Then you go to the back of the restaurant to order.  They had a wide selection of many different types of burgers.  However, since it was the first time we went with traditional favorites.  I got a burger and Adam got a cheeseburger :)  We split one order of fries just so we could try them.  Then you sit down and they bring you your food.  In the mean time we played monopoly deal, but when our food arrived, it was great!!!  Imagine the best, unhealthly, burger you've every had.  Mine was probably a burger from Krolls in Green Bay.  Yum....BUT  this is the healthy comparison.  This burger was equally as good as Krolls, however it was good for you! (well, I guess as good for you as a burger can be)  It wasn't dripping butter and grease.  The beef had a great flavor, it was loaded up with condiments and toppings, and the bun was fantastic!  The fries were alright.  They had a good crispness to them, but they had a very, very strong seasoning to them.  Here's some reviews from Hopdoddy...and some pictures at the bottom of the page to leave you with as well!  Go Packers!  (thats what I'll be doing today as Adam leaves to fly to New Mexico for the week)

PS- I almost forgot...All of their shirts have different sayings on the back.  Our servers said "We Spank our Patties and they Like it!"
