In Dresden we stayed at his dad's place. For clothes, I was able to borrow a few things of Marcus' step mom's and buy other things as well at the store. The week went well. Though Marcus was gone a lot for conferences, I was still able to get out and see the city. On Wednesday Marcus' Omi showed me around a bit, and then we had a BBQ in their backyard. I also went out for dinner, and drinks Thursday night with Marcus and his colleagues. By Friday noon, all was well again with my luggage delivered straight to Marcus' parent's front door!
Marcus' Omi bought us tickets to see the opera Friday night. This night was a bit interesting as we were unknowingly late for coffee and cake at his Oma's house, and then further, Marcus forgot the tickets! While he went to get them back at his dad's place, I rode in a separate car with his Oma. Marcus sped home and back making it just ten minutes after we went inside. He also must have been met with every green light! Upon his arrival, he and I found our seats next to his Oma, just in time for the show to start.
The opera was called Faust. Faust, by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is a gripping tale about an old man, Faust, who makes a deal with the devil
After intermission, the opera progressed with a pregnant Marguerite giving birth to a child. But where is Faust? The brother of Marguerite, Valentin then is presented returning from war. Upon hearing the news, he appears determined to seek revenge on Faust for seducing his sister. With the help of the devil, Faust defeats Valentin, but only after Valentin curses Marguerite! Then Marguerite kills her baby. Warped in sin, she turns to God for forgiveness. Though Mephistopheles tries everything including sending Faust in to persuade her to relive old times with him, it does not persuade her. At this, she enters heaven with a chorus of angels announcing her salvation. Meanwhile, Faust's time has run out, and the devil drags him off to hell... a typical German ending if I don't say so myself! Everybody dies at the end. ;)
Some of this weeks highlights entailed Marcus talking with a German accent in a whisper, (he sounds like the viper) & the following dialog: Me: "I massage my spine all the time in Pilates'' Marcus: "Your what?!? Your swine?!!'' Hehehe.
