This morning we actually had to set an alarm.  We were heading for the ferry from Pichilingue, north of La Paz, to Topolobampo, the port outside of Los Mochis on the Mexican mainland.  Five in the morning, ...I (Malin) can barely remember...We didn't know exactly what to expect and leaving the bike by itself during the ferry ride felt a little sketchy! However we managed to find our way onto the ferry Chihuahua Star with the help of our broken Spanish...Jess secured the bike and had booked a Junior Suite for us so we would not have to wear all the gear for the 6 hour journey. The ferry wasn't too bad and the suite was awesome. We slept in a little bit before trying to find something to eat,  we found the cafeteria and a restaurant but since Jess opted for the cheapest cafeteria option, the food was kind of nasty..and I'm not even picky! Jess ate it happily though.

Ok - it's Jess - riding the bike into the bowels of the ship, I felt like Jonah getting swallowed up by the whale!  It was dark, hot, smelly, and deafening...much like I could imagine the innards of Moby Dick - but I managed to secure the Sea Pig (the bike) to the belly-wall of the ferry Securing the Sea Pig.
Securing the Sea Pig.
.  Now up the stairs to our luxury suite... pretty cool...I think we're the only ones on the entire ship that opted for a suite for the 6 hour journey, but we had a lot of crap with us and needed a secure place to keep it!

Alright!  Chow time!  Can't wait for the all-you-can eat cuisine ubiquitous on cruise ships!  Hey now!!...something's amiss here, the Love Boat...or more properly, the Chihuahua Star, was about to disappoint this happy little cub scout...first off, the food was terrible...it was like Malin and I were drug mules that got cuffed and stuffed by the Federales and thrown onto a prison ship in the middle of the Sea of Cortez...just like in the movies...I held out my tray, and the scruffy dude behind the counter dropped a ladle full of slop on my plate...but...it was SOOO awful, that it actually really appealed to me!  I ate my beans thinking of how lucky I was to have this meal...it was great!...and the scruffy dude even tried to jip me out of my allotment of 3 corn tortillas, but I got 'em.  Malin was less enthusiastic, but my exuberance made up for the both of us.

Thoroughly fed (half of us), we retired to our quarters for a little trip planning by me, and little snooze time for Malin...it was only a few more hours until the whale would cough us up on mainland shores.

The bike
Jess, you are cracking me up with the various bike names! I hope there will be a quiz when you get back, so I can prove I've been paying attention.

Thanks for all the updates, and photos. The cafeteria slop sounded pretty gross!

Lisa

Greetings from good ol' VENTUCKY
What up worldly travelers? Everything has been great here. We think and talk about you guys daily. Glad to here your having such a great time. We spent the 4th of July at uncle Petey's beach house. Apparently the mountains were blue before we got there because Petey doesn't remember us being there. Now he is hanging out with Hunter at the beach with his ready made family (Cari & Lily).Everyone says hi and continue your safe travels. Did you take Bleep with you on the ferry? Does he have his own pet carrier?

Sweet Suite
Gosh... I think your ferry suite is actually pretty rad! Miles and I drove our luxury coach on one of those ferries but it was in Seattle so it wasn't smelly and icky ucky like that one. Also, Malin? Can you teach me your chicken dance when you get home? JK!
