On Thursday we chilled in the hot tub at the hotel in Bend, ate our continental breakfast, took our time and set out for the next leg of the trip in my trusty car. Left around 11:30 AM with the goal to drive straight through to his parents' new house in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Cleared Oregon, Idaho and Utah, switching every few hours, reading a great book which I would like to recommend here:

Somebody's Heart is Burning: A Woman Wanderer in Africa by Tanya Shaffer an American woman who volunteered throughout Ghana and West Africa and shares her stories about food, language, willingness and the beauty of being welcomed into another culture with wide open arms and warm laughter. We haven't finished it yet, but we're both enjoying sharing someone else's adventures--Jeff being reminded of what it's like to volunteer in such circumstance and I looking forward to what it's like to be in West Africa!

Another book I'm currently reading that I'd like to share is John Stott's Decisive Issues Facing Christians Today. I haven't finished it either so don't take my recommendation at 100% but so far he takes a very biblical approach to the questions of how active Christians should be in social issues, how we should participate in politics, and what our views and actions should be regarding such important and divisive topics as the nuclear threat, the environment, north-south economic inequality, work, race, women, marriage and divorce, abortion and homosexuality. Agree or disagree it's an interesting and challenging read.

After driving to about 3 AM and being unaffected by Red Bull (it was my turn), I pulled over and we both napped in the car on the side of the road. He was understandably still jet-lagged and I semi-understandably still grad-school-lagged so I have to confess that we did stop for two more naps! We FINALLY made it to the adorable little town of Woodland Park, nestled in the trees and his parents' house with a great view of Pike's Peak all of 26 hours later! Eek.

Jeff cooked us some amazing Thai food (he took a cooking class one day) and we've toured around a bit, marveling at this great new location (they just moved from Chicago). It's been a fun, relaxing stay but all too short...on to the next place...
