We are on day 6 now and so far so good. After Namche we headed to Tengboche..gee when I told everyone we were only elevating 300m a day and the walking itself wouldn't be too hard I forgot about the 3Hr down n 2nd up!
Pretty hard but the views were magnificent..we got our first views of Everest,Lhotse,AMA Dablam whilst walking to Khumjung..SO exciting!
We visited a monastery that had the scalp of a Yeti!(Can't bring it back uncle Tim!)and went to the Hillary funded school..couldn't convince the kids to stay for classes but we did see inside the rooms..very basic but they were learning English.
In the arvo at Tengboche we went to the monastery to hear the monks pray n chant..such a lovely experience n we stayed for an hour. Not a bad effort for J n C but I think for Jesse that was a bit driven by the fact that he was hoping we could join them for dinner!
SQUAT toilets now too which is proving a challenge for dodgy knees! As the plumbing is virtually non existent people who use toilet paper hv to place it in a bucket rather than in the toilet...most of the time there is a tub of water to cleanse oneself and flush away yr deposits!!Just thought I'd share that with you!
Today we hiked from 4000-4500m n will sleep at 4250m.The headaches and breathing difficulties hv certainly kicked in.Imagine climbing up the Eureka tower stairs, back down, then going up again!
Pretty cold at night ,was awesome waking up this morn to snow capped mountains looming over us with raging rivers below and surrounded by mountains! This is exactly what I wanted the kids to experience! We've surpassed my goal of Tengboche and getting closer to base camp!
