No matter what the significance, it is one of many major days the city celebrates throughout the year. And each one of those days tends to take Jerusalemites by surprise, well, just those living in and around the Old City at least. I mean, these are the people who should know when is the Jewish Passover; they should know when is the Christian Palm Sunday and when is the Moslem Feast of Fitr (Fast Break). And yet, each and every one of these special occasions (and the uncountable others) catch those who should know about them by surprise. Palm Sunday comes, and you see people stuck in a traffic jam they know not what is causing it; then, and the closer they get to the source the fact pops in their heads "OH...today is Palm Sunday", and a slap comes on the forehead in blame for not remembering this "fact"... "Did I not swear last year (and every year before that) that I shall remember about this and avoid the traffic jam". And by the time this thought comes to mind, it is already too late. Then the other thought comes..."Next year I definitely shall not forget". Well, believe it or not, 10 minutes after passing the jam, it is all forgotten, and come next year, it is another slap on the forehead, and another reminder that dissolves into thin air 10 minutes after passing the traffic jam.
The same happens in every feast and every occasion, and wishing one lived somewhere else other than this place, but, oh well, Jerusalem is a magnet, you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave.
