We made the less-than-two-hour trip to Chicago this morning through Gary (scary!) and resisted the temptation to take a detour to Whiting, Indiana. We arrived in Chicago around noon and drove by Soldier Field, much to Dwayne's delight, and then decided to take in the Shedd Aquarium before checking in at the bed & breakfast. The Aquarium was huge and very busy. The whole family enjoyed it, but we didn't linger too long as we were all anxious to check out our room at the monastery and get settled in.

Chicago traffic is crazy and thank God for the GPS which made touring around Chicago almost stress free. We arrived at the monastery at 3:45 (we thought it was 4:45 because we forgot about the time zone change) and were greeted by Brother Edward. He showed us to our "room" which was actually a three bedroom apartment with a kitchenette, gave us some great advice about where to eat, how to get around the city and then left us to get settled. After carrying all of our stuff up the three flights of stairs and unpacking a little, we walked up the street and took out some pizza. We walked back to the B&B to eat and enjoy our Chicagoan oasis. What an amazing place! I would recommend this B&B to anyone travelling to Chicago that can manage three flights of stairs. The apartment had so much character and felt like a home away from home. The breakfasts were amazing and would have been enough food to feed our family for both breakfast and lunch. I will let the photos of the place speak for themselves.
