Today we explore the buzzling center of Perugia. The city center is, as I mentioned before, not too big, and on top of a hill. The town is a student town as there are a couple of universities located here. First we have our breakfast at the hotel. Thank god its included in the deal that we got, as we see on the menu that they dare to charge 38 Euro a person for a breakfast here. And it is not that the selection of the buffet is incredible, just your average meats, scrambled eggs and croissants.

After breakfast and refreshing ourselves we headed out into town. We tried to walk slow but still about an hour later we had seen every alleyway. We tried to do some shopping as Linda needs some new travel shoes, but unsuccessful. Next to the delicious food at La Taverna, the highlight of Perugia was the Minimetro, a very tiny little metro that is pulled by a cable. It costs 1 Euro and brings you down (and up) the hill. Claudio told us later that the city spend over 150 Million Euro to build this thing and that they need about 15000 passengers a day to break even. That is never going to happen as the service stops at 20:00, because people complained about the noise of it. What a joke! We took the Minimetro and enjoyed the ride down, and back up again. It takes about 20 minutes and it is good value for 1 Euro. After our metro adventure we roamed around the streets of Perugia for a bit, practicing the Italian art of doing nothing. That evening we went back to Claudio for our steak with cognac and white truffle. We were seated a the same table and were welcomed like family. We chatted for a bit and enjoyed our appetizers. After that Claudio disappeared into his kitchen to cook up the steak. It was perfect, and the truffles were shaved table side. We ended our meal with some 1919 rum from Tobego. The bottle was left on our table and never appeared on the bill. This was another dinner as it should be. Maybe it's a good thing we leave tomorrow, because at this rate we will gain about 5 kg a week I guess.

Don't know much about those other hotels, we got ourselves a great deal on Brufani Palace. Beautiful views, very nice accommodation, wouldn't go anywhere else next time. When you get to Perugia be sure to visit Claudio and say hi from us.

Happy travels!
