The day started early as we had a long drive ahead to Yosemite, or better Oakhurst. We enjoyed our home made breakfast, Linda made some Noodles again, and set a new record in packing our bags. We loaded out Altima and headed out.

First we had a little drive through the Napa valley along the silverado trail up to Callistoga as we wanted to see that little town and spend a bit more time in the Valley. No wines this time but even without its a lovely place. In Callistoga we enjoyed a coffee at a local coffee shop which was also the office for everyone without an office. Sort of a local version of Starbucks, but the coffee had a bit of a strange unpleasant taste.

After our caffeine stop we headed out to Mariposa wich is close to Oakhurst. We had a dinner planned at Charles Street Dinner House. Its highly ranked at Tripadvisor, so we have to check it out. The route was long and quite boring up to the point where we headed out east towards the mountains. This last part made up for the previous hours of torture on interstates and the boring route 99 through the central valley. The views were amazing as we headed into the foothills. Mariposa is a quiet little one street town with a lot of history. It used to be the center of the Californian gold rush, and in its heyday it was the largest county in California. We had a lovely dinner at Charles Street, real homey food and very pleasant service.

After our dinner we walked around the little town for a bit. Thereafter we headed out to Oakhurst just 30 minutes away from Mariposa. We arrived at our hotel for the night (the Shilo Inn) just after dark. We have to start early tomorrow as Yosemite awaits us.
