Today we were supposed to go to Homosassa Springs Wildlife Center and then the beach to relax after a few days of fast paced activity. The original schedule had us diving with manataees today, however being late in the year the manataee are already moved out of the river to cooler locales, so we got the alternative.
Homosassa Springs is a large nature preserve and wildlife rehabilitation center [aka a zoo] that has various creatures that are found in the Florida region. They are highly renowned for their manataee rehabilitation center and habitat, which has about 10 manataee from my count. We spent most of the morning walking around the park, but I was pretty disappointed by the fact that most of the animals were hiding. The manataee feeding "show" was alright, except the lady was not my most favorite of people. I was very happy to leave and do something different.
Unfortunately, with our luck, the one day that we want to be above water is the one day it decides to be 50°F in Florida as a high. Going to the beach is out of the question. As a result we ended up at an all you can eat barbecue place and passed out at the motel for a few hours before another night of drinking. I only managed 2 plates of all you can eat pork/beef but I think the winners got up to 4+ at least.
Oh well, I needed a nap anyway!
