Where I stayed
Air New Zealand
. Landed in NZ and went through another security check (maybe in case we collected a gun on the way through the airport?) Up to our second lounge, a bit more of a wait this time but not too long and we were off on our big flight. We had 4 seats together and then one in front between two strangers. We told Tif that was her seat and we were sure she would be stuck between two fat stinkers LOL but she was sat next to a young chick (21ish) and they got along really well. Even though they bring you lots of food and drink and entertain you, it was a bloody long time to be jammed in a tiny space. Sleep (when you are in an isle seat) is pretty much impossible for me with people bumping you every two mins. and then the person in front of you always puts their seat back. Its not pleasant but they do keep the cabin fever away quite well and I do love the feeling of flying. Tif not so much by the end though, bit of travel sickness meant the landing was not nice at all for her. Besides all of that it was well and truly worth it to get us here. American customs was a bit full on, they want everything including your finger prints. Once we got out of the LA International Airport we had to find our domestic airport which isn't as easy as it sounds and people were not really all that helpful. We did eventually find someone and caught our bus around then asked some more people and off to yet another security check. Then onto our LA to Vegas flight. Cam was super excited to see the take off from the window seat. He sat in his chair all excited and CRASHED big time
. I couldn't even wake him up. It was like he was drunk, he was responding but only just. Dennis got upgraded to "first class" so he was out like a light too and Tif and Bren crashed as well. They missed out on the most beautiful flight. Snow capped mountains and desert flats. It was only a 40 min trip and we were at our destination. Finding our bags was an adventure in itself. We had to catch a tram inside the airport for about 200 mtrs then walk about 1km to the baggage collection LOL. Then try to find our driver which meant asking about 6 more people. stepping out into the freezing desert. we waited for what we thought was a private car but was a big bus with lots of people on it. The driver was on his mobile the whole time LOL. anyway got to our Hotel and found they had given us the wrong room, so had to change it. We were expecting the 52nd floor but got the 26th in the end. The room is at least as big as our house and the view is great. We were supposed to have internet but don't. and they told us that even thought the room is advertised to sleep 6 comfortably they don't make up the sofa bed to we would have to do that ourselves. This is not however a room to complain about with two bedrooms a lounge and kitchen/dining room, two bathrooms, two spas, full size fridge and dishwasher (even thought the cleaner uses that not us) Beds made and room tidied every morning THIS IS THE LIFE!!!
We left home at 7am and had a driver called Barry take us to the Airport. He used to live in USA and had heaps of information for us first time travelers. I highly recommend "The Party Express" they were on time, friendly and knowledgeable. We got to the Airport too early to check in so had McDs Breaky. Then got in our First of many ques for the day. Checked our bags in and got our boarding passes (first actual tickets so that was pretty exciting compared to the print outs we had had so far) Shopped for duty free but didn't buy any. Then to our first security check. Dennis got checked for Drugs LOL. Kids thought that was pretty funny. Then Tif got bomb checked hehe. Through boarder protection and onto the lounge. Not much of a wait and we were on our first flight. The kids LOVED it. Tif said it made her want to sky dive even more. It was 3 1/2 hrs but the time flew (pardon the pun). Movies on the back of each seat so you choose your own entertainment. I watched Pitch Perfect (I'm pretty sure its still in the movies)
