The travel bug has firmly grasped me and I knew after my last trip that I would HAVE to travel again soon...

The last 7 months back in Scotland have been full of new plans taking shape. I went back to my old job where I worked while I was a student, which was kind of weird because it felt like I was taking a step backwards. However it was also good because I knew most of the staff already and how to do everything so it wasn't like starting a new job!

In terms of travel, as soon as I arrived home from Bangkok I went on a one week holiday to Spain with my parents. It was the first time just the three of us had been holiday since I was 16, so it was a really nice thing to do after I'd spent so long away from home. I had a few days in Berlin before Christmas, walking around in the snow and shopping at Christmas markets. It was lovely to be away again! I also skied at Glenshee for a day, visited my Grandma in Aberdeenshire as often as I could and one of my best friends from Australia came to visit me in Scotland for 3 weeks. We went to Sweden to catch up with Charlie & Emil, Paris & Disneyland and then a few days in lovely Rome. So I guess I haven't really been deprived of travel since I came home!

I am now two days away from the next trip. Andrew and I will be spending 5 months backpacking in Peru, Argentina, Chile, Urguay and Brazil. I am really excited about stepping into the unknown again and for the next 142 days of adventures. The main things we are looking forward to at the moment are: hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, trekking in the Colca Canyon, learning Spanish, exploring Patagonia and our first glimpse of the impressive Iguassu Falls!

This time it is a little different for me because I'm not setting off on the adventure alone like my last trip. I am equally excited but don't have that nagging nervous feeling that I set off with last time! I also kind of know what to expect now. I know what things I need in my backpack, what things people say you need but ultimately you NEVER use, I know what it's like staying in dorms (although I don't think we will all that much) and how easy it can be to make new friends.

Well that's all for now. On Wednesday we fly to Madrid, stay there for one night and then fly to Lima on Thursday via Sao Paulo.

Over and out...
