Last night, while I was asleep, Franck (my language teacher) stopped by to tell me that class was at Ecobank (the building we use for classes that are not language) instead of Sarah's house. It was changed because today is Benin's Independence Day....Jour de la Fete. We were all going to Aplahoue to see the parade.

Their idea of a parade is a bit different from ours. All the "important people" had spots sectioned off (including the PC group) with chairs. There is not parade route, it's more like 1000 feet of road blocked off as a stage. There was a presentation in the beginning (boring) done in 4 different languages. One of the languages was English, for us, but their accent was so strong (or pronunciation was bad) that I could barely make out what was said.

After the presentation, different groups in the community put on a short their idea of a parade float. The whole ceremony was EXTREMELY long...6 hrs. The officials were even getting annoyed and started cutting people's skits short.
