So our first proper day in Hong Kong and we decided to leave Hong Kong island to venture into the new territories, in search of the wishing tree! The travel was actually very easy with a train and bus - altho warning to all, their bus drivers are very rude and don't give you change! Plus you better sit down quick as theyll drive off tge moment you walk away potentially sending you flying the way they drive.

Anyway so we were travelling on the bus and were soon regretting not packing our handbags better as the heavens opened from above (i should have twigged to keep something on me after spotting the umbrella vending machine in the metro station!) which was also made worse by the driver not stopping at our stop so we ran from the next stop. This soon stopped as we realised running would not save us from saturation. We found the tree which usually would have wishing scrolls with fruit tied on thrown over, however the tree was being 'rehabilitated' which bamboo supporting the aerial roots. Seen a few on these trees with aerial roots (which basically grown down from branches to provide more support if you haven't already guessed) and they are quite impressive.
There were boards with hooks and your Chinese zodiac sign above for you to hang your wishes on. Me and Steph are both the year of the hare (although 87 my birthday was before the Chinese new year in 88) so we hung our wishes on an empty hook and then took shelter in a random little hut and ate our pineapple :)

Much of the hostel was going out so we thought we would sample the night life with them. Realising we had no actual handbag other than a fabric sack we headed to Ladies market and bout ourselves a fake Mulberry bag each. We then joined a nice group of people on the roof terrace which was really great at this hostel (yesinn hostel) to chill out with a few beers - or ciders in my case! Central was apparently the place to be so we went to a couple bars there which were okay. One very crammed and the other too quiet funnily enough, it was nice to chat with other people though from all corners on the Earth.
