Nikiti Camping Greece It seems to be the custom in Greece to sell your wears with the aid of a loud speaker. It many different places we noticed vans driving along the streets (particularly Esplanades, where there are lots of people), with loud speakers advertising anything from fish, towels or deck chairs to plays to be performed that evening. Most of Europe has bread for breakfast, and consequently bakeries are open very early and by 11am there is hardly a French stick left. As we have corn flakes for breakfast, we've had to get our act together and pick up some bread for lunch quite early in the day. There are many bee hives in Greece, not just white but all pretty colours like blue and yellow. The Greeks would need lots of honey to make that delicious baklava, a yummy flakey pastry with walnuts, peanuts spices and drizzled with buckets of sweet honey syrup. We've had lots of it and lots of different varieties of it.
tell us a bit about it and their experiences there, this is very helpful or us. Birgitte and Nikolaus, a Swedish and Greek couple, respectively, gave us a lot of valuable information about the EU and countires like Estonia and Turkey wanting to be part of it. Estonia is part of the EU but has not yet been accepted to use the Euro currency. Turkey has other issues it must change before it is accepted into the European Union. Lynn and I were taking a stroll around the camp ground when Birgitte asked us to join their group of happy campers. We called Des and Lou over and were introduced to everyone. In Greece the boys dance as a group and all the girls dance together. Lynn and I were invited by Birgitte and the other girls to do some very basic steps to the music. When we asked it this how they do it in Greece, Birgitte replied, "No, this is the Greek dancing for the tourists". Kostas then got up and showed us how it was really done, including the smashing of a glass with his foot. It was quite spectacular. We were entertained with singing, dancing, clapping, drinks and an enjoyable evening which ended with a swim at one in the morning.
We are enjoying the bikes we purchased, lovingly called Charly and Rodney, to differentiate them. We sometimes use them to take the memory stick into a town to update this pod. On the 6/8/06 we were going to quickly run into town to update, when we noticed Charly had a flat tyre. Lou and Des had it apart and fixed in no time, luckily we had purchased a repair kit when we bought the bikes. More thumbnails ...
