La Spezia, Italy

Drove to La Spezia and Chinque Terre Italy for a break from the motorway and our own coffee and biscuits. Every morning Lynn and I each prepare a thermos for coffee stops along the way. This is a beautiful section of coast, mostly inaccessible because the Italian Navy has a naval base here. But we did find a little spot to paddle with some deck chairs and private boats. We decided with Lou and Lynn to go to different cities this day because we had already seen Pompeii and they had already seen Rome.

We found Camp Roma, or Little Australia on the Aurelia ring route (after stopping to ask several times for directions, one very kind Italian lead us on his motor scooter the last couple of kilometers. It was not well sign posted, but when I mentioned this to the young attendant, she asked me where I came from. I told her Genova to which she replied "Well, we can't put the signs all from Genova"). It's a young back packers' paradise with a lovely swimming pool and live entertainment until 11:30pm in the disco.

So far this day, we have had 4 people come up to us and ask us how we got our Australian cars here. Everyone is fascinated and wishes us well on our journey.
