We made a flying visit to see the coast of Monaco and feel the ambiance of Prince Albert's principality. It's very beautiful, but there were many cranes on the horizon so it looks like a city under construction. This is where the rich people of Europe hang out. There were many expensive cars and boats. We had a beer in Monte Carlo Bay, bought a few post cards and a sticker and went on again. We went around a couple of times trying to find the motorway to Genova (which they spell Genes). Monaco is only about 3 kilometers square and has a population of around 30,000 and its residents don't pay any income tax.
After this hot day with a few decent walks we were all pretty tired by 7pm, but we feel we are a bit behind in our distance traveled, so we decided to push on past Genova on the motorway and bed down at the first opportunity to present itself. Big mistake. We went to bed in a truck parking bay right at the side of the motorway. It was noisy all night and occasionally a works vehicle pulled in with its many yellow flashing lights which gave a strobing effect inside the camper. The fumes of the cars and trucks was enough to give Des and I a headache so when we got up at 7am we felt like we had been driving all night.
