Des had changed the oil in the last camp and now found a place to deposit the old sump oil at a service station. We had to purchase a Vignette sticker for permission to drive on the motorway in Austria (our fourth country where this was required). They are only about $7-10 and the shortest ones will cover the vehicle for anything from 3-15 days but are available for up to a year.
We noticed the military presence as soon as we entered Austria with lookout points manned by the army all around the border and for many K's inland, which made it a bit difficult finding a campsite. As it was getting dark we passed a soccer stadium with some of the players finishing their practice. We asked their coach if we could camp there overnight and after the first refusals, she said she would ring the care taker
Unfortunately we were shocked during our meal by a sickening screech of brakes and a dull thud. Lou grabbed a torch and I took the first aid kit and we all raced down the highway, joining neighbours along the way. Before I reached the accident scene, Lou and Des came back towards me and said there were already people in attendance, so we returned to our camper, shaken and unsettled. In the morning we saw the small vehicle upside down in the ditch at the side of the road. God only knows what happened and the outcome.
