A Less Strenuous View

I woke up at about 8am the next day, and enjoyed a quiet breakfast and a newspaper we had picked up last night. Matt slept a bit longer, and around 10 o'clock we both sorted ourselves out and decided to switch up the muscle groups today – forget hiking, we jumped on our bikes.

We rolled along the South Rim Trail for about 5km, stopping at various lookouts to take in the scenery which changed every few hundred meters – at each stop you could see s dramatically different view of the Canyon. Given its vast size, it was amazing how different the Canyon looked from just slightly different viewing angles. We finally got a good look at the Colorado, which was white with rapids as it crashed along the Canyon floor, but from our viewpoint thousands of feet above, it looked frozen and motionless.

We spent about an hour or so cruising along on our bikes and eventually checked out one of the little gift shops, but soon returned to camp to pack up and get on the road – this would likely be one of the greater contrasts of stops, we were leaving the Grand Canyon to head to….Las Vegas.
