Greetings from Green Bay, Wisconsin. I am home for the holidays after completing the semester at Michigan Tech. It occurred to me only recently that this past semester, is my last semester of classes EVER!! Unless of coarse I want to go back to school for my PhD, but at this point in the game, that is highly unlikely.
The last couple of weeks in Houghton were busy, but I was able to have a bit of fun too. Some of the highlights include:
· Dancing at the Snowmobile Club, listening to Erik Koskinen
· A night out with my housemates - Seth Bernard at the Michigan House
· Snow ball fight on Ruby Ave
· My crazy hat party - hockey stick dancing
· Clothing exchange - Larry in a skirt, John showing some skin, good times
· Snow shoeing at Maasto Hito with John and York
· Snow shoeing with Larry and Maggie
· Hanging out at Steve's apartment - laughing my ass off
· Jacuzzi time with Al, Say, Abbie, and Chris
The list is just a taste of the fun that I have in Houghton, Michigan with my friends. This semester was one of the best, if not THE BEST semester ever. I have met so many wonderful, loving people this year, but I knew that would happen considering I would be leaving for 27 months. My life seems to work that way. Each friend brings such a fantastic new perspective to my life, I've learned so much about the world and myself by knowing them in the short time we've had together. Each one has a special place in my heart and shining memories. Soon most of my friends will also be going to their assignments in the Peace Corps, venturing out into the world. It is neat to think about us all spread over the world, sharing ourselves and building new friendships. I hope only the best for them and wish them all the happiness in the world. I hope that the time and distance don't erode the great relationships that have started to form. Well, enough of the sappy stuff.
Less than a month from now I will be beginning my Peace Corps journey. On January 16, 2005, I fly to Philadelphia for staging; from there I go to Uzbekistan. I'm looking forward to staging, I've never been to Philly before, and hopefully I get the chance to see some of the city before we leave
A month may seem like a lot of time, but it will go fast, I have so much to do before I go. I need to study the language (Uzbek) more, and start packing. Where to begin, how do you pack for two years??
Just a quick update
Stay tuned for some simple Uzbek and a packing list.
