Thursday 14 th July.
Hayley and I took the elevator to the 85th floor of the Empire State building. Crowds weren't too bad. Probably queued for about 1/2 hour. Great views. Temperatures quite pleasant, high 20's. Met Leanne at Macy,s where I did a little retail therapy. Another Starbucks moment. Wandered past Parsons School of Design (for project runway fans) and Bryant Park a lovely green park that is transformed with big marquees at New York fashion week. Walked through the New York public library, beautiful building and scene of some great movies. Ghostbusters 1, Sex and the City Movie.
ChryslerBuilding and Fifth Avenue with all the famous shops. Harry Winston, Fendi, Chanel, Salvatore ferragnani, and Tiffanys just to name a few. Did a little retail therapy at Tiffanys!
Second highlight of the day (after the Tiffanys experience) was seeing the musical The Book of Mormon at the Eugene O'Neill theatre. Words cannot describe this musical ! Hysterically funny and very entertaining....

Friday 15th July
Today we took the subway again to 80 street and walked across Central Park to the The Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art).  There was an Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibition celebrating his iconic designs and fashion.  Luckily when we bought our tickets we were told that since we had paid over $60 for the three tickets we were eligible for a free annual members ticket which allowed us to skip the 1 1/2 hour waiting line for the exhibition!  Nice one! This is a great art gallery but unfortunately we didn't have time to look at more than a brief overview as we had a lunch booking at The Boathouse on the Lake in Central Park. Enjoyed a lovely lunch and a glass of wine whilst watching crazy people row boats in the hot sun.  Leanne left us to buy Half Tix tickets to Billy Elliott while Hayley and I wandered through the Park, by chance passed Strawberry FIelds and the dedication to John Lennon and on to The Natural History Museum with its dinosaurs etc.  I didn't enjoy this museum as much as the Met so we didn't stay long.  Last night in New York and we saw the show Billy Elliott.  I love this movie but didn't enjoy the musical as much.  The 2 young boys who played Billy and Michael were the highlight.

To get the best from the museum, you need to stay until after dark - then everything comes to life - I've seen that in a movie.
Saw the boathouse from across the lake on Masterchef last week. Looks like a great place to have a meal - hopefully not a hamburger!
