We walked to the BART this morning, figuring that was more reliable than the bus and cheaper than a taxi. Richard carried my pack as well as wheeling both he and Shell's big cases - what a guy! We made the airport in good time and the flight was fascinating, we flew over snowy mountains - maybe the Rockies - and then the brown fields of Illinois through which we will be driving in three days. Arrived in Chicago at 3pm with a time change and worked out - with assistance - how to get train and bus to Dewitt Place, a block from Lake Michigan and a block and a half the other way from the Hancock building. It was sooooo cold, and there was snow, wooohoooo!

We settled in to our hotel - the first time we've had to share a room - and went walking in search of food. What we thought was going to be a slap - up cafe called The Local, just around the corner, turned out to be a vibrant a la carte restaurant with great food and amusing, attentive staff. I ate baby back ribs for the first time and drank a Manhattan - ew, too strong!

After the meal and advice from our server Justin on where to hear the best blues, Justin brought us an Irish 'coffee' that consisted mainly of Jamieson's - I topped up with coffee twice!

After tucking ourselves in to our respective beds we chatted for a while before I sung Shell a lullaby - and myself to sleep - with Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.
