Saturday, 1.30pm
We've spent all morning on the internet and called Shell and Dash too. I'm back at the Diyali - our restaurant - for some light lunch, then when Brenden gets back we'll go walking.

On my way home I walked past some fantastic drumming, sat and listened for 5 minutes - a young boy on really high stilts was jiggling around to the drum. Strange yet interesting.
There are echoes of the old Freak Street here; lots of anglos spending their days wasted and practicing their juggling or harmonica playing on the street; they watch you go by with sort of smug looks on their faces like they have found the answers; yet there they are, day after day in the same cafe, getting stoned and throwing balls in a circle. What was the question?!

8pm. We're in black-out until 10 - reading by candlelight. Had dinner by candlelight too; cheese & bean burrito and beer. Tired. Brenden is reading The God Delusion; his most recent chess partner Azwil said he shouldn't read it. I think he should read everything. Don't want to talk about the chess scores - I still have to concentrate too hard on what moves all the pieces can do to focus on strategy; B floggs me, and quickly.

Sunday 11/10/09
Have decided not to go to Baktapur (again!) this morning - maybe I'll get there on my third visit to's 750r each for foreign tourists and to B it's just another old city. We'll go to Thamel instead - culturally unappealing in comparison but fine for gift shopping. Hopefully one of the hotels I've contacted will have a vacancy and we can spend our last day lazing by a pool, painting our toenails....what's that? My kid's a boy? Heh heh he'd probably let me...
12.30pm. back at the lodge for lunch; after this a quick walk to the market and into Durbar Square. Then onto the net to see if we have a new hotel. Need to buy some thongs too. Yay! Have booked and paid for a room at the Park Village Resort in Budhanilkantha, South Kathmandu. Pool, TV. chatting with Steve T on Facebook and his son Zak Christopher was born on 6/10, 9lb 6oz!
Bought more stuff - and a sarangi - inThamel, and a suitcase for all our loot in Bechel Bazaar. Quiet night. Blackout.
